WasteCo NZ Ltd offers a huge range of waste management services across the South Island including household and commercial waste collection, specialised medical and quarantine waste handling, industrial and utility services (portaloos, city sweeping, spill response, hydrovac, wastewater), and waste sorting both on site and at purpose-built facilities focusing on recycling and diverting materials from landfill.

About the Role

As a Weighbridge Operator you will be the first point of contact for drivers and visitors to our site. Your role is about ensuring the safe and efficient flow of vehicles through the weighbridge, checking that loads meet acceptance criteria, and accurately recording all vehicle and waste details.

Day-to-day, you’ll:

• Greet drivers and visitors, explain site rules, and check PPE.
• Operate the weighbridge system, capturing and recording details of vehicles and waste.
• Direct customers to the correct disposal or recycling point.
• Collect and process payments (EFTPOS/cash).
• Provide advice on safe disposal and recycling options.
• Maintain radio contact with site staff and escalate any issues when needed.
• Keep the weighbridge office tidy and professional.

This role requires a balance of customer service, attention to detail, and a strong commitment to health and safety. While previous experience is helpful, full training will be provided.

What We’re Looking For

• Accuracy and attention to detail with data entry.
• A safety-first mindset and someone who will speak up if something isn’t right.
• Basic computer skills; cash handling experience is a plus.
• A team player who’s reliable, adaptable, and not afraid to take initiative.
• Previous experience in a weighbridge, transport, logistics, or waste role is helpful, but not essential.
