Tauwhiro/Social Worker - Family-Centred Services

We are seeking a part-time Tauwhiro/Social Worker to join our South Otago team - Family-Centred Services. This role supports whānau and their tamariki and rangatahi (0–17 years) who have experienced, or are at risk of, family harm.

Grounded in whānau-centred and manaaki-based practice, the role focuses on fostering wellbeing and mauri ora by supporting safety, connection and strengthened parenting capability. You will work alongside whānau with complex needs, contributing to healing, recovery and positive outcomes for tamariki.

About the role

  • Based in Balclutha
  • 30 hours per week
  • Fixed term role to cover parental leave*
  • Salary range $68,038 - $102,000 (pro-rated on hours worked) commensurate with skills and experience

*Fixed term employment from start date 18 May 2026 until 23 December 2026

About you 

  • A relevant tertiary qualification in Social Work or a related discipline; consideration may be given to other qualifications and/or significant experience in family harm or whānau-centred services
  • Knowledge of parenting and child development
  • An understanding of Care and Protection principles and the Oranga Tamariki Act 1989
  • Ability to work in a culturally safe, strengths-based and trauma-informed practice with whānau, supported by an ongoing commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi
  • Good knowledge of community resources and an ability to develop and maintain effective networks, including in Māori and Pasifika communities
  • Experience working with whānau experiencing family violence, trauma, or complex and high-stress situations
  • Sound computer and database skills
  • Current driver licence
