About the Role
We're looking for a steady, supportive, and down-to-earth Youth/Intellectual Disability Community Support Worker to join our Balclutha team. This role is not for the faint-hearted — but if you’re someone who can stay calm under pressure, set healthy boundaries, and still bring fun and connection to each day, you might be exactly who we need.
You’ll be working alongside vulnerable people who may present with escalated behaviours, so you’ll play a vital role in creating stability, safety, and growth — even in the most challenging moments.
In this role, you will:
- Support people to reconnect with whānau, culture, and community
- Role-model emotional regulation, resilience, and life skills
- Keep structure in the home and calmly manage behavioural challenges
- Provide hands-on support with routines, well-being, and goal setting
- Encourage learning through fun, trust, and respectful relationships
- Work closely with a tight-knit team to create consistent, positive environments
- Maintain clear documentation and communicate effectively with whānau, professionals, and colleagues
This is a full-time position (80 hours per fortnight) with a variety of day, evening, weekend, awake night, and sleepover shifts.
What you’ll bring
Our Balclutha team is looking for someone with:
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
- A positive attitude and calm approach in challenging situations
- A genuine passion for helping others grow and succeed
- A full driver’s licence and basic computer skills
- A relevant qualification (e.g. Level 4 Mental Health) — or willingness to work toward one once you’re on board
- Must have the right to work in New Zealand
What will Pact offer you?
At Pact, you’ll be part of a supportive, down-to-earth team that cares equally about our staff as we do the people we support. We offer you:
- In-house training to ensure you have the skills and knowledge to support our clients best
- $26.80 - $31.47 per hour based on qualification
- Celebrate your milestones with Long Service benefits
- Encouragement and support to achieve the NZQA Level 4 Qualification
