Silver Fern Farms Finegand is South Otago’s largest employer, with up to 1,300 staff employed during the peak processing season. Located near Balclutha, Finegand is New Zealand’s largest multi-species red meat processing site, processing sheep, lamb, cattle, and bobby calves. The site plays a vital role within Silver Fern Farms’ nationwide network of 14 processing facilities.
The operation is seasonal, with peak processing running from October to June. Bobby calf and beef processing continue through the winter months, providing employment opportunities across much of the year.
No prior experience is required to begin a career at Silver Fern Farms. Full training, work clothing, and personal protective equipment are provided. A wide range of roles are available across different departments, offering opportunities to develop skills, gain qualifications, and build a long-term career in the meat processing industry.
