Construct South

Construct South is a locally owned and operated building company based in Balclutha, delivering residential, commercial, rural, and bespoke construction projects across the Clutha District and the wider Otago/Southland region. We take pride in our quality craftsmanship, practical problem-solving, and strong team culture. With decades of combined experience from our qualified builders and having supported dozens of apprentices through their training, Construct South offers exposure to all corners of the construction industry, from farm infrastructure and renovations to government projects, architectural homes, sheds, and commercial fit-outs.

Co-owned by Clem and Natasha Munro, Construct South is committed to developing the next generation of skilled tradespeople in the Clutha District. Through partnerships with local high schools, Gateway and Ready to Work programmes, BCITO, and Otago Polytechnic, we provide genuine, supported pathways into carpentry and construction careers.

What we do

• Deliver high-quality residential, commercial, rural, and bespoke construction projects

• Complete dairy sheds, commercial and government projects, farm buildings, renovations, and new architectural builds

• Provide pre-construction planning, design coordination, and project management

• Support youth, jobseekers, and career changers through structured learning pathways

• Offer safe, supportive job site environments where learners can experience real construction work

Learning & Career Pathways

Gateway & Ready-to-Work Experiences

• Students can join the team for short-term placements to get real exposure to construction tasks

• Hands on learning: tool use, site safety, practical building tasks (under supervision)

• A chance to see what working in the trades is really like day to day
  
  

Apprenticeships (BCITO & Otago Polytechnic)

• Opportunities to begin a Carpentry Apprenticeship (Level 4 Certificate in Carpentry)

• Work alongside experienced builders, site managers, and construction leaders

• Paid time to attend and travel to courses at Polytech

• Supported training — mentorship, on-site learning, portfolio guidance, and structured progression, and we work with you to support your style of learning. 

Entry-Level Opportunities

• Roles for motivated school leavers or career changers wanting to start in the trades

• Learn core skills: foundations, framing, cladding, concrete work, rural construction methods

• Pathways into becoming a qualified builder, construction labourer, site manager, or project lead
