Te Whānau Tupu Ngātahi o Aotearoa - Playcentre Aotearoa is a well known and loved Early Childhood organisation with over 70 years of supporting parents to take the lead in their children’s learning through play. Playcentre operates 450 Playcentres throughout the country and has just over 1000 staff members who are employed in and over a number of roles.

Purpose of the Position To assist parents and caregivers on session to ensure sessions run smoothly, ensuring parents are supported in their role as kaiako and children’s needs are catered for, that their play learning and development is enhanced, as well as role modelling Playcentre Philosophy and current practices. To help centre members understand the key components of excellent practice at Playcentre, and how each person can contribute to this. To foster a whānau-led culture and support emergent leadership, by helping centre members gain knowledge and understanding, and increase confidence in centre members to take on more and more of running sessions themselves.

Available Position:

  • Clinton Playcentre 2 sessions per week - Tuesday & Thursday 9.30am - 12pm (8 hours per week, contact and non-contact time) during school term time. Start date as soon as possible.

The Ideal Candidate will:

  • Hold a Playcentre Course 4 or higher or Level 4 Certificate in Early Childhood Education and Care, or an equivalent ECE qualification.
  • Hold a current First Aid Certificate.

Desirable skills and experience will include:

  • A passion for working with children aged 0 - 6 years alongside parents and caregivers;
  • Knowledge and understanding of the value of Playcentre and its philosophy;
  • Knowledge and commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and using Te Reo on session;
  • Knowledge and understanding of how to apply Te Whāriki;
  • Great time management and communication skills;
  • An ability to support and empower parents, whānau and caregivers.
  • A willingness to upskill and meet new Playcentre qualification requirements as required;
