Ashgrove Dairy Farms has two, fixed term positions available for the upcoming calving season. We will be calving 500 cows, with calving running for approximately 10 weeks starting from the beginning of August.
We are on a flat farm at the top of Inch Clutha, which is a 5-minute drive from Balclutha.
Remuneration will be an hourly rate and will depend on experience and quality of work, but will be at least the living wage.
The first position is Milk Harvesting, this involves helping us milk the cows, take care of their health needs and keeping the cow shed clean and tidy. It is a split shift position with morning and afternoon milking which each take approximately 3-4 hours. We milk the girls through a 40-bale rotary shed.
The second position is to assist us during the day with the day to day running of the farm, the types of jobs you will be doing will be cleaning and hygiene related tasks, topping up dry feed for the calves, assisting us with getting the new calves in from the paddock, working with us to feed the cows and make sure they are looked after at this busy time of the season. This position will start at 9am and have a flexible finishing time before 3pm.
These jobs are Monday to Friday with one weekend a month to work. We can be flexible, and previous dairy experience is not essential but there are some skills that are necessary, these skills are listed below.
