Milton is a town with a passionate local community which boasts some great independent shops ranging from a butcher to quirky second-hand stores. Yet only a short drive away are the beautiful beaches of Bull Creek, Toko Mouth and Chrystalls Beach on the Forgotten coastal Highway.
Ancient whale and dolphin fossils and a stunning lookout over Lake Waihola await just 9kms north east from town.
While Mount Stuart Reserve up the Manuka Gorge Highway (State Highway 8) was a popular picnic spot way back in the 1870s and is still a firm favourite with freshwater fishing as well.
Milton’s main landmark is still the gothic-inspired Tokomairiro Presbyterian Church which was built in the 1880’s and has category one listed status with Heritage New Zealand.
You can get a bird's eye view of town by walking up the McNally track.
