Step Up. Stand Strong. Volunteer with Fire and Emergency
Looking for more than just a way to help out? Want to be part of something real — something that matters? Volunteering with Fire and Emergency New Zealand is your chance to step up, challenge yourself, and become part of a team that’s trusted, respected, and relied on across the Clutha District.
Whether you’re keen to be on the front line responding to emergencies, or prefer to support behind the scenes, you’ll be trained, supported, and valued every step of the way.
Why volunteer?
-
Make a real impact in your community when it counts most
-
Be part of a team where camaraderie, trust, and shared purpose come standard
-
Learn new skills like emergency response, leadership, teamwork, and first aid
-
Gain access to benefits like free health checks, training allowances, and product discounts
What’s involved?
-
You’ll need to be 18+ (or 16–17 with caregiver consent) and pass police vetting
-
Firefighters and medical responders will complete a medical check with their GP
-
Regular training is required — usually weekly or fortnightly — plus occasional courses
-
You’ll need to be able to respond to call-outs, often at short notice
-
Most roles require living or working near the local station
It’s not always easy — but it is worth it. The most satisfied volunteers are the ones who show up, get stuck in, and stick around. If that sounds like you, then FENZ love to hear from you.
Right now, Clinton urgently needs more willing volunteers — this station is critical.
Kaka Point and Kaitangata could also use a few more good people. In fact, every brigade in the Clutha District would welcome new recruits — so if you’ve ever thought about getting involved, don’t wait.
