WellSouth is the Primary Health Network for the Southern locality to support people to look after themselves, promote healthy environments and help provide care, and support access to care, where and when it’s needed.
As a Peer Supporter you will:
- Receive training to provide parenting support, including breastfeeding support
- Learn skills to help yourself, your friends, family and community
- Receive ongoing support in the form of monthly meetings and professional supervision
- Have opportunities for ongoing professional development to build your knowledge and skills
Requirements
About you:
- You are welcoming, friendly, patient, and personable
- Ability to be empathetic and open-minded
- Able to work within clear guidelines, including those surrounding confidentiality and maintaining appropriate boundaries.
You will be asked to provide:
- Reference from colleague (paid/unpaid work capacity)
- Character reference (not whānau members or partners)
A Police background check is required for this role.
Time commitment
Peer Supporters will complete a learning programme provided by a Peer Support Programme Coordinator. Usually, this is a time commitment of 4-5 hours one day a week for 4-6 weeks, however, if there is demand for something different, we can discuss your needs.
Once trained, there is flexibility to fit your contribution around your own commitments. Possible ways to support:
- By phone/text, or in person visits (anytime as per need)
- Within community drop in group (weekday mornings)
