Assistant Manager (2IC)

An exciting opportunity for a talented and highly motivated assistant manager (2IC)  is available for the 2025/26 season commencing 1^st June 2025 or later by negotiation. 

The property milks 530 cows with a support block nearby running youngstock and wintering around 200 head plus off farm grazing utilised for the remainder. The cow shed is a well-appointed 40 bale rotary, and the farm has a high standard of machinery and its own baling and cultivation equipment. The position can be varied with tractor and youngstock work also available to the right applicant. 

The property is currently run with two full time employees plus relief milkers / Milk harvesters and casual staff utilised alongside the Farm owner. There is a staff friendly roster of four days off per fortnight that includes every second weekend and a regular weekday (usually a Friday or Monday). 

We seek applicants with a track record of dairy farming that can demonstrate they possess the skills to undertake the role, either competent or demonstrating capability to improve in the following Key skills:

1.       Pasture management and feeding.

2.       Ability to lead and motivate staff in owners absence.

3.       Affinity and empathy with livestock.

4.       Experience operating machinery and motorbikes safely

5.       Good communication skills and a growth mindset

6.       Tidy and respectful of others.

On farm training will be provided, and the farm owners are supportive of external training, having a desire to work with progressive employees looking to take the farm to the next level.  There is a quality five bedroom home available on farm and the position could also suit a couple with work available for a partner. The farm is ten minutes approx. from Balclutha and has access to good primary / Secondary schooling and amenities.
