Is there a better way to truly experience "The Catlins", one of New Zealand's finest eco-destinations where wildlife rules the beaches and rainforest rolls down the valleys all the way to the sea.
Rugged splendour, rustic charm and the wonderfully slower pace of Catlins time are what it is all about!
Getting back to nature is the whole point. Yes cell phone coverage is limited and there's no power but Mick and Deb's flair and ingenuity more than make up for it!
They have used 100 year old recycled timber for the floors and furniture (clever & crafty).
There's a coal range for cooking and heating the water from the creek so you can soak in a cast iron bath.
Composting toilets which help the fruit trees strut their stuff.
Oh and there's also a verdant veggie garden and yes you can pick your own.
The kune kune pigs and chooks sort of sum up this heavenly haven!
Old Church Acre (off grid & sustainable)
It's just outside Owaka (no gravel roads)

They also hire kayaks out down in paradise (also known as Papatowai)
