Purakaunui Bay is a stunning stretch of Catlins coast which boasts the area’s highest sea cliffs.
This wild bay has witnessed the largest winter waves recorded in New Zealand. It is a special surfing spot, complemented by a beautiful bush backdrop.
A great place to spot seals and sea lions and has an amazing DOC campground. Basic facilities can be found right next to the beach. The access road is not tar sealed - please take care.
