McLean Falls is the highest of the Catlins wonderful waterfalls and some say the most spectacular in the Southern region.
There are two waterfalls that make up the McLean Falls, an upper and lower. The 40 minute return walk along the Tautuku River goes through podocarp forest and huge tree fuchsias with native trees labelled.
There are toilets and the falls are signposted from the southern scenic route but the gravel access road can be a little bumpy in places.
Another iconic attraction Cathedral Caves (one of the world's largest sea cave complexes) is also close by.
