Cathedral Caves in the Catlins are majestic sea caves, only open at low tide. Set in towering cliffs the caves are 30 metres high with 200 metres of passageways and amazing acoustics.
These are one of the World's largest sea cave complexes. They are located along the northern end of Waipati Beach, just south of the village of Papatowai.
Check www.cathedralcaves.co.nz for latest conditions. Mother nature rules supreme as you can only go either side of low tide!
They close between May and October due to the winter weather. There is a small fee for using the car park, in order to access the Cathedral Caves.
Just down the road is another treat, majestic McLean falls!
