Tides Getting Here Clutha Attractions

Set on the edge of Lake Waihola, New Zealand’s most inland tidal lake, famous for its mirror-like reflections and black swans.

The lake is surrounded by the Sinclair and Waipori Wetlands which are an internationally renowned haven for wildlife thanks to the efforts of the local community. There are wetland walks or you can just linger by the lake with BBQ’s and restrooms making it a great stopping spot.

Or you could get a little further off the beaten track and head to historic Waipori Falls, a small village nestled in native bush. Crystal Falls is a wonderful unexpected surprise, and only a short stroll. Further upstream is the man-made Lake Mahinerangi, which has brown trout and perch but the area can get a little chilly in the colder months.

Or how about 30 million year old whale and dolphin fossils next to a lovely lookout over Lake Waihola.
