Kaka Point settlement is named after the Kaka parrot and still has a slightly hidden beautiful bush walk. The most famous resident was Maori Poet Hone Tuwhare who spent many years living in an old fashioned crib. There is a brewery, fabulous function venue, plenty of places to stay and a pub by the beach for some tipple and tucker. You can even kayak around the breath-taking Nuggets, named by Captain Cook because with the sun shining on them, they looked like rocks of gold.
