If you love to fish then there are plenty of options in the Clutha District of Otago.
We have some of the best fly fishing in New Zealand! With more than 25 rivers and streams within a hour or two, you are in the right place.
For Trout and Salmon head to the Clutha, Waipahi, Pomahaka, Tuapeka and Catlins Rivers. Owaka, Waitahuna, Tokomairiro and Leithen Burn Rivers are other top freshwater fishing spots. If you want to get off the beaten track and catch yourself some perch, head to Lake Mahinerangi, located above Waipori.
One of our favourites is the Pomahaka River near Tapanui; or head down to the coast and try your luck surf casting!
Make sure you get a fishing licence from your local information centre or try your luck surf casting on the coast. To find out more go to:
