Emergency Management Advisor - Clutha

The Opportunity

We are looking for an Emergency Management Advisor – Clutha to join our Emergency Management Team on a permanent, full time (37.5 hours per week) basis, in our busy Balclutha office.

The purpose of this position is to support Clutha District Councils (CDC) district planning and delivery of Civil Defence and Emergency Management services to their communities. The role is responsible for contributing to the leadership, management, integration and coordination of the emergency response activities and services to the district, working in close partnership with the CDC, the ORC and the Emergency Management Otago Group Office and wider team.

As an Emergency Management Advisor - Clutha, you will be responsible for:

  • Developing and maintain emergency preparedness, in partnership with CDC
  • Establishing and maintaining a high level of operation engagement with stakeholders, in accordance with CDC protocols
  • Contributing to the effective management of response, recovery, reduction and readiness, including group exercises and training exercises
  • Comply with all legal and statutory obligations for Health and Safety, CDEM Act and other relevant legislation

About You

Our ideal candidate will have:

  • A tertiary qualification in emergency management/development, organisational management, planning and development or community development (considerations will be given where the applicant has extensive experience and/or other relevant qualifications)
  • Experience within the CDEM sector or community development or related field
  • At least 5 years' experience in emergency response or within a CIMs structure
  • Ability to translate and communicate complex information to a range of stakeholder groups, including political leaders
  • A passion for the development of community resilience
