Project Engineer
Te Tūranga / About the Role
We have an exciting opportunity for a Project Engineer to join our Finegand site as we kick off an exciting, landmark project. This role is ideal for someone with at least two years’ experience and a solid engineering foundation, particularly with mechanical aptitude, who is keen to grow their project delivery capability in a supportive, on‑site environment.
Working closely with the Regional Project Engineers and Engineering Manager, you’ll initially be involved in small to medium engineering projects, gaining hands‑on exposure across the full project lifecycle. With strong mentoring and development support, this role offers clear scope to build confidence, broaden skills, and progressively take on more responsibility as your experience grows.
Please note that the successful candidate will need to be willing to commute or relocate to Balclutha as on site presence is key in the effective delivery of this role.
Te Mahi / Key Responsibilities
- Support the planning and delivery of engineering projects across the Finegand site, with a focus on safety, quality, cost, and timelines
- Apply sound mechanical and engineering judgement to troubleshoot issues, assess equipment, and support practical problem‑solving
- Assist with project scoping, contractor coordination, site activities, and commissioning support
- Monitor project budgets and expenditure, contributing to accurate tracking and reporting
- Maintain project documentation, drawings, and records using internal systems and Microsoft tools
Ōu Pūkenga / About You
You’ll bring an engineering mindset rather than a pure project management background, with a genuine interest in how equipment, plant, and processes work. You may be degree‑qualified or trade‑qualified, and you’re comfortable getting into the detail, asking questions, and working through problems logically. Most importantly, you’re keen to learn, open to feedback, and confident working both independently and as part of a close‑knit site team.
We’re looking for:
- At least 2 years’ experience in an engineering, maintenance, or projects‑related role
- A mechanical engineering background or strong mechanical aptitude
- The ability to think critically, troubleshoot issues, and work independently when required
- Exposure to budgeting, cost tracking, or financial systems, with good attention to detail
- Strong Microsoft skills (particularly Excel); experience with D365, PPM, or basic CAD is advantageous, but not essential
