Wastewater Treatment Operator
Hands-on, meaningful work protecting our environment and community.
Are you looking for a hands-on role where every day you make a real difference to public health and the environment? Join the Clutha District Council’s Three Waters team as a Wastewater Treatment Operator and help keep our communities running safely and sustainably.
About the Role
You’ll be responsible for operating and maintaining wastewater treatment plants and associated pump stations to ensure safe, effective, and compliant treatment processes. From monitoring and adjusting plant performance to responding quickly to operational issues, you’ll play a key role in ensuring wastewater is treated safely before it returns to the environment.
This is a role for someone who enjoys problem-solving, working outdoors, and taking responsibility. You’ll work both independently and as part of a supportive team — sometimes in remote areas or during emergency situations that require calm, practical thinking.
What We’re Looking For
- Full New Zealand driver’s licence
- Awareness of risks to personal safety, public health, and the environment
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to stay composed under pressure
- Basic computer literacy (Microsoft Office, electronic systems)
· A National Certificate in Wastewater Treatment is desirable or a willingness to undertake training and achieve relevant qualifications
Why Join Us?
- Training and development opportunities — we’ll invest in your success
- Supportive team culture with great work-life balance
- Contribute to protecting the Clutha District’s beautiful environment
If you’re practical, safety-conscious, and keen to learn, we’d love to hear from you.
