EduConnect Practitioner

1 FTE Clutha Catchment

Helping tamariki and rangatahi find their way back to learning.
Full-time (40 hours/week) | Fixed Term (2 years)

Are you someone who believes every ākonga deserves a chance to thrive?

Able Minds is seeking passionate and community-minded Practitioners to support our EduConnect attendance service, a trauma-informed, identity-affirming initiative that re-engages ākonga aged 5–16 who are chronically absent or non-enrolled in school.

You’ll be out in the community, working alongside whānau, schools, and social services to remove barriers, co-design Attendance Improvement Plans (AIPs), and help young people reconnect with education and thrive in their learning environments.

This mobile, relationship-based role is ideal for someone who succeeds in diverse settings, values whānau-centred practice, and brings a strong understanding of youth development, education, and cultural frameworks like Te Whare Tapa Whā.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Case management of up to 40–50 ākonga
  • School and home visits across your assigned cluster
  • Building trusted relationships with whānau
  • Developing and reviewing AIPs
  • Partnering with local services to wrap support around ākonga and their whānau
  • Promoting equity and educational success for Māori and Pacific learners

What you’ll bring:

  • Qualification in Youth Work, Education, Social Services, or similar
  • 2+ years’ experience with tamariki, rangatahi, and whānau
  • A flexible, culturally responsive, and trauma-informed approach
  • Passion for education, mental wellbeing, and community connection
  • A full driver’s licence and willingness to travel

Why Join Able Minds?

  • Be part of a purpose-driven, values-led organisation that puts people first
  • Work alongside a passionate team with empathy
  • Enjoy a supportive, flexible, and inclusive environment
  • Make a visible impact on the lives of ākonga, whānau and your local community
