Waste Minimisation Officer

We’re looking for a motivated, community-focused individual to help drive waste minimisation across the Clutha District
The purpose of the role:
This is a hands-on, community position where no two days are the same.
As our Waste Minimisation Officer, you will:
- Deliver waste minimisation programmes in line with the Waste Management and Minimisation Plan (WMMP) and Council’s Waste Strategy.
- Promote zero-waste education and behaviour change across schools, business, and the community.
- Support the development of waste initiatives.
- Work with colleagues, contractors and agencies to deliver practical solutions.
- Audit and monitor solid waste contracts, to ensure quality service delivery.
- Lead public awareness campaigns
What you will bring:
- NCEA Level 3 or equivalent experience in environmental or sustainability education.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal with the ability to engage schools, businesses, and the wider community.
- Confidence in working with contractors, stakeholders, and Council teams
- A sound understanding of sustainability issues and a passion for creating change.
- Event planning, computer, and report-writing skills.
- A current full driver’s licence.
