Gabriels Gully Interpretive Track
Location: Lawrence
This is where the Otago Gold Rush officially started. Named after the man who found the first huge nugget sparking one of the world’s fastest and largest ever gold rushes. An easy to moderate 90 minute loop walk with panels telling the story of this famous historic site.
Blue Mountain Walk
Location: West Otago
This challenging 6-8 hour trek takes you along the ridge tops with panoramic views. You can start at Whisky or Black Gully. The weather can change fast in the Blue Mountains so be prepared. There are overnight huts available at Black Gully.
Catlins Wisp River Loop
Location: The Catlins
This rewarding 24km tramp over one or two days winds through a stunning steep rainforest clad valley. The River walk is a 5-6 hour track between Tawanui and the Wisp which is a 4-5 hour higher walk with amazing views from Rocky Knoll lookout.
Sinclair Wetlands
Location: Milton
Stroll to the heart of this internationally renowned wildlife haven. There is a well signposted 2km track from the car park through swampland past Lonely Island and onto Ram Island (Whakaraupuka) an old Pa site. Really feels like you are in a different world but it’s only a short drive from Dunedin.
Blair Athol Walkway
Location: Balclutha
A relaxing hour and a half river walk or easy bike ride along the mighty Clutha River which is New Zealand’s largest andfastest. Follow the majestic Clutha/Mata-Au and see a fabulous array of flora and fauna with a dazzling display of rhododendrons in spring.
